Union lauds Fubara over 40% pay increase for refuse contractors

Gov. Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, has been commended for approving a 40-per cent increase in the monthly payment for waste management contractors in the state.

David Sikpa, the Chairman, Rivers State Waste Service Providers Union, made the commendation at a news conference in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

Sikpa said that the increment would mitigate the effects of inflation on the operations of refuse contractors in the state.

He described the increased monthly payment as ‘highly motivating’, and assured that refuse contractors would not treat their jobs with levity.

”As a union, we raised concerns about the tough economic conditions in the country, it prompted the governor to invite us for a meeting.

”After listening to our plight, the governor approved a 40-per cent increase in our monthly payments,” he said.

The chairman said that the governor’s gesture demonstrated his administrative efficiency and commitment to the plight of the people.

Sikpa urged waste disposal contractors in the state to justify the governor’s trust in them by undertaking their duties with utmost commitment.

”We are deeply impressed by the governor’s leadership style and his love for humanity. We wish him God’s grace and direction,” he said
