NGO Supports Widows, Less-Privileged With Relief Materials in FCT

An NGO, Strong Point Educational and Healthcare Initiative, has donated relief items to widows and the less-privileged residing in uncompleted buildings in the Federal Capital Territory.

Founder of the NGO, Mrs Chinelo Mbonu, while speaking at the humanitarian outreach to commemorate her 50th birthday at Gaduwa Community in Abuja on Thursday, said this was part of the organisation’s obligations and corporate social responsibilities to the society.

Mbonu said that the association, which started operation in 2022, saw the need to support widows, orphaned children and women without family support so that they could be relevant in society.

“Our work allows the less-privileged to gain social mobility, education and the opportunity to get into the community, communicate, achieve independence and increase their self-esteem.

“When I returned to Nigeria last year, I was staying with my sister in Gaduwa; it’s a new estate but it has many uncompleted buildings.

“One of those days, I saw a two-year-old girl who fell from one of the uncompleted buildings. So when I started inquiring, I found out that a lot of women and children live in uncompleted buildings without windows and doors.

“So I decided last year to spend my birthday with them. Everything I needed to share with my friends on my birthday I shared with them.

“Some of my friends heard about it and said ‘Why would you do that alone, include us next time’.

“So this year, my golden year, I decided to call my friends and families and reach out to them, and amazingly, they turned out for me and I was able to do it bigger for them in that community,” she said.

Mbonu said that the gesture was aimed at providing succour to the less privileged in the community, especially those displaced and now living in uncompleted buildings.

She called on kind-hearted Nigerians to give attention to the plights of women, children and the less privileged, especially widows.

“Honestly, lots of people in Nigeria have more than enough for their immediate families. If only they could decide to reach out to the next person; there is so much hunger in the land, lots of people need this little help, not much help.

“In as much as we can’t give them as much as we eat in our homes, the little we can share will be okay.

“There are plenty of communities, even the ones close to Abuja. So I decided on my birthday to reach out. If every individual will decide to share whatever he or she has, it will change the world.

“In as much as we can’t change the world; we can’t make the world a golden place for everybody, we can, at least, do the little that we can to assist the less-privileged,” she added.

Mbonu said that the organisation had contributed immensely to the growth of humanity and sustained the efforts to touch so many lives.
