Financial Sector Embracing Environmental Sustainability Investment– SEC
The global financial sector is increasingly embracing and investing in environmental sustainability, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) says.
A statement issued by the Commission in Abuja on Wednesday, said retail investors were currently opting to invest in ways that would benefit the environment.
SEC expressed optimism that the trend would gain more momentum in the future.
According to the Commission, extensive discussions surrounding the advantages, challenges, and regulatory recommendations associated with sustainable investments have contributed to this shift.
The commission said it played a crucial role in enhancing resilience in the country’s capital market, promoting investor education, enforcing protective regulations against fraud and encouraging responsible investment.
The commission said it had joined the rest of the world to celebrate the 7th edition of the World Investor Week (WIW).
It is a global initiative of the IOSCO established to raise financial literacy among the general public.
The week-long campaign for this year focuses on the theme; “Investor Resilience, Crypto Assets, and Sustainable Finance.
