Be Factual, Maintain Ethics – FCT NUJ Urges Members
Journalists have been advised to ensure factual reportage and maintain ethics of journalism to spur growth and ensure national development.
The Chairman of FCT Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr Patrick Osadebamwen, made the call at a one-day capacity training in Abuja
About 50 journalists drawn from the public and private media attended the training, organised by FCT- NUJ and sponsored by Chevron Nigeria.
“We are here to enhance our intellectual capacities, knowledge of issues and also be able to contend with the challenges arising from the opening of information dissemination fronts.
“So, we expect that by the end of this training, we will have had capacities and knowledge of these things boosted .
“We hope to reinforce our ethics demand and ensure what we are sending out is the truth, the facts of issues that are without any form of bias,” he said.
Osadebamwen advised the participants to take the training seriously, while urging them to take advantage of trending technologies to execute their jobs skillfully and professionally.
Also speaking, the General Manager of Policy, Government and Public Affairs of Chevron Nigeria, Esimaje Brikinn, said the training was to ensure that journalists performed their duties effectively and efficiently. Arts Forum Enlightens Students on Innovative Digital Tools
Brikinn, represented by the Manager Communications, Victor Anyaegbudike, reiterated that the role of the media as pace setters in the society could not be overemphasized.
“Most of the things we do and hear is what comes out from the media. In that sense, the media becomes the agenda setter for society and moulds the opinion of people.
“So, that is why we say when you educate the journalists, you have educated society, that is why we are here and that is why we are making this investment,” he said.
Brikinn, therefore, expressed hope that the training would improve the skills of journalists, especially on the trends in the communication world.
Meanwhile, participants at the training expressed delight at the opportunity availed them, adding that the programme was apt and impactful.
