President Buhari confers National Honour on former IGP Adamu

 

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the conferment of a national honour on the former Inspector General of Police IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu.

A copy of the conferment letter ks made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja indicated that the award ceremony would hold on Oct. 11, in Abuja.

The letter was signed by the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs Sen. George Akume on behalf of the President.

Akume said that Buhari had approved the conferment of  the rank of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) on Adamu.

The investiture ceremony is scheduled to take place at the International Conference Centre ICC Abuja on Tuesday October 11, 2022.

He daid that Adamu was listed among the recipients of the 2022 National Honours Award as a mark of recognition by the Federal Government for his meritorious service to the nation.

A graduate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria was born on Sept. 17, 1961, Lafia, Nasarawa State.

He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1986 and trained at the Nigeria Police College in Ikeja, Lagos State.

He worked as the Divisional Crime and Administrative Officer at the Mgbidi Police Station in Mgbidi, Imo State. READ:Teachers urge Buhari to put education on First Line charge

He also served as Officer in charge of General Investigation at the then NPF Zone 6 Headquarters in Calabar.

Adamu also has extensive international experience, he worked at INTERPOL’s NCB in Alagbon, Lagos from 1989-1997.

The nominee was the first Nigerian to be seconded to INTERPOL General Secretariat, Lyon, France in 1997 where he served as a specialized officer in Economic and Financial Crime, Sub-directorate from 1997- 2002.

He became the first black African to be appointed Assistant Director in charge of African Sub-Directorate and a director NCB Services and i-24/7 Development.

The nominee was as Director in charge of Peacekeeping and Training at the Nigeria Police Headquarters, Abuja, before his subsequent appointment as the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command.

While As IGP, the nominee initiated several policies aimed at repositioning the Nigeria Police Force among which is the community Policing strategy.
