Ekiti Traditional Rulers Endorse Maiden Obas Football Cup

 

Some key traditional rulers in Ekiti have thrown weight behind the newly introduced “Ekiti Obas Cup Under -18 Football Competition”.

The traditional ruler of Ikere-Ekiti, Oba Adejimi Adu, the Ogoga of Ikere-Ekit, said on Friday when the organisers visited him in his palace that the competition was welcomed and laudable.

According to him, the initiative of having such a football competition, in the name of the Obas, would also improve the game at the grassroots, as well as help unveil hidden young talents.

Oba Adu expressed hope that the football competition would entrench unity and growth among communities in Ekiti.

The traditional, expressed his support for some youths, who had already shown interest in parading teams for the competition.

Meanwhile, the organisers of Obas Cup, were also at the palace of the Olukere of Odo -Oja, in Ikere Local Government  Area, Oba Ganiyu Obasanyin.

Receiving the team, Oba Obasanyin, expressed support, and  called for more sporting competitions to gainfully engage the youth, so as to take their minds away from social vices.

He prayed for the success of the Ekiti Obas Cup Season one, which will kick off in April. He assured them of his readiness to personally support the competition morally and financially.

The organisers’ train had earlier been to the palace of the traditional ruler of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe, the  Ewi of Ado- Ekiti, where the ruler gave his backing to the competition.

The train also visited the palace of the traditional ruler of Isan-Ekiti, in  Oye Local Government  Area, Oba Gabriel Adejuwon, the Onisan of Isan-Ekiti, who doubles as the Chairman Ekiti traditional Rulers Council.

Leader of the organisers, Alh. Qozeem Oladapo, said while speaking with newsmen after the tour, that the next phase of the programme would be meeting with teams, that had shown interest to participate in the competition.

Oladapo disclosed that registration by the interested football teams would  begin early April, as the organisers intensified their sponsorship drive, prior to the kickoff.
